As participants of this hackathon, you are expected to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the competition below. Should you have any questions, please reach out to the competition organizers.
Please remember that the reasons people have for participating in competitions like George Hacks can be manifold: Some people go to compete outright, but most people take part to better themselves, their skills, and to have fun.
TEAM FORMATION
Teams should be made up exclusively of students who are not organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or in any other administrative position at the event. Teams are composed of four people maximum. Students are permitted to work alone if they so wish, however, it is extremely advisable for participants to work in groups.
COLLABORATION
Teams may not collude or cooperate with other teams for the duration of the competition. In order to preserve fairness, each team must work as an independent unit and is not allowed to ask other teams for advice or help. This policy includes restrictions on written submissions, presentations, or any other sort of cooperation. Any questions about formatting or direction should be directed towards the George Hacks staff members and not fellow competitors.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
Throughout the entirety of the conference, contestants are expected to adhere to the standards of GW's policies on Academic Honesty, details of which are contained online in the Student Handbook. In particular, contestants are expected to not plagiarize, cheat, or in any other way undermine the academic integrity of their work and the conference. Issues regarding academic integrity will be dealt with at the discretion of the George Hacks staff and may bring consequences delineated under “Consequences of Violations.” Please bear in mind that academic dishonesty will most likely result in serious punishment, such as, but not limited to; expulsion from the competition, a rescinding of any awards or prize money, and ramifications affecting future participation in George Hacks events.
Everything submitted by contestants for adjudication during this hackathon should be original works crafted by contestants. References of other published pieces or uses of any externally researched information must provide appropriate citations, with URL links specified for online sources. If cited pieces are printed sources, contestants should follow the Chicago manual of style, and provide both footnotes and bibliography.
All submitted works must be written during the competition. In particular, all work should be done between the end of the opening ceremony and the submission deadline (01/27). While you may incorporate previously studied notes, readings or research, and any previously formulated relevant ideas to your proposal, you may NOT have any material pre-written for this hackathon. Examples of unacceptable pre-written material include, but are not limited to; fully formed research, papers, or other partial works that have been prepared beforehand.
HARASSMENT
Harassment includes and is not limited to offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, photography or audio/video recording against reasonable consent; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. If you are in a situation that makes you uncomfortable at this hackathon, if the event itself is creating an unsafe or inappropriate environment, or if interacting with a representative or event organizer makes you uncomfortable, please report it to our director immediately. Any form of harassment at any time will not be tolerated and will result in expulsion from this hackathon and all future George Hacks events.
CONSEQUENCES OF VIOLATIONS
Violations of any of the aforementioned rules or expected conduct of behavior of George Hacks will result in consequences as determined by the George Hacks administrative staff. Consequences include and are not limited to revocation of team’s entry to the competition; suspension or prohibition from George Hacks activities; disadvantages on or ineligibility for awards considerations; expulsion from the competition; and ban on attending any future iterations of George Hacks. George Hacks reserves the right to determine the definition of unacceptable behavior and to take appropriate measures against any such offense. Members of the George Hacks Administrative Staff are the only ones with the authority to grant exceptions or extensions to competition policies and deadlines.
MISCELLANEOUS
Neither George Hacks nor GW is responsible for any loss, injury, harm or illness with any consequences that occur for any reason whatsoever, however arising, in course of this hackathon. Participants assume all responsibility for themselves.
I certify that I read, understood and agree to the Rules and Regulations of George Hacks 2021 Medical Solutions Hackathon.
